Benefits of Breastfeeding
Our point of view: Breastfeeding is a personal choice, and one that comes with many benefits should mama choose to breastfeed her baby. Breastfeeding has benefits that support the health of both mama and baby.
Science of Letdown
Our point of view: It’s different for every mom, but in the absence of one's baby, relaxation and thoughts of the baby help simulate let-down. For working and traveling moms, busy and stressful atmospheres can inhibit milk let-down, hence an important reason to have a Mamava or alike nursing lounge.
Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act states that employers of 50 or more non-exempt employees are required to provide both adequate time and space (read: NOT a bathroom!) for nursing employees to express milk. Read on to ensure you're aware of your rights as a nursing mama.
Mamava is dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding, making it more optimistic, realistic, accommodating, and inviting to all mamas.
We believe that breastfeeding is a personal choice, that there are as many philosophies and styles of breastfeeding as there are breastfeeding women, and that women who choose to breastfeed should be able to do so whenever, wherever they and their babies feel most comfortable.
We believe that much of the recent discourse around breastfeeding and the “mommy wars” undermines each woman’s personal experience and is a distraction from the real issues, such as social inequity and the lack of accommodations for nursing mothers.
We believe that breast is best but understand that many mamas need to be away from their children for work, travel, social, health, or just a fun night out.
We believe that it is a good thing for mamas to be on the go, but that they shouldn’t have to use a breast pump in a bathroom, storage area, dressing room, or other undesirable location.
We believe that breastfeeding is a beautiful, healthful, natural function of motherhood that no mother should be denied based on cultural, social, economic, or other circumstances.
We believe that all mamas deserve a private, clean, and comfortable place to use a breast pump or breastfeed—anywhere, anytime.
