The Best Nursing Covers for Breastfeeding

In an ideal world, you’d feel confident to breastfeed your baby wherever, however, and whenever you want. But in the real world, some circumstances might have you craving more cover. There are lots of fun (and affordable) nursing covers to buy, but here are some other simple solutions for stealthy feeding in a pinch, or when you prefer to travel lightly.

The Traditional. Lightweight muslin blankets or receiving cloths make for an easy and quick cover-up. Leave one in your diaper bag so you’re ready at a moment’s notice.

The MomGyver. Sure there are nursing tops—but pro breastfeeders swear by the infamous “two-shirt method”: wear a cami under your shirt, then pull the cami down and the shirt up to place your babe between the two layers for a discreet feed. Other methods include draping yourself with the tried-and-true cardigan or large scarf.

The Cocoon. When your baby is bigger and demanding milk in Target, sit them up on the handlebars of the shopping cart and pull your top over them while they nurse.

The Wrap. Babywearing is an easy way to carry your babe and feed on the go.

The Human Body Shield. Ask your companion to sit next to you to block full-on visibility while you and your baby get comfy.

The Corner Office. When you’re visiting friends or family, asking for a private room can be a welcome excuse to enjoy some quiet time. Or stay in the fray, but find a comfy chair and turn away from company. Because sometimes you do need to put baby in the corner. Especially if they’re easily distracted.

The Shortcut. Take the stress out of the equation altogether and bring bottles with you. Bonus: other people can feed your baby.
